The speaker works at boot but as soon as Windows starts all beeps seem to get redirected to the soundcard (a Creative Audigy2 ZS). I use headphones exclusively with my PC and made heavy use of the internal speaker in XP, for email alerts etc when away from the computer. I've tried XP x64's beep.sys but this doesn't appear to work, even when I disable driver signing checks (shows as unable to load in Device Manager). I don't have Vista so I can't try the driver from that. Is there any way to achieve what I want? The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3R and I've installed the latest drivers from Intel.
Is a specific driver required for the internal speaker? I thought it would be generic. A 'System Speaker' is present under System devices in Device Manager and when I click on the Driver Details button it says 'no driver files are required or have been loaded for this device.' Can I take it from your responses that the internal speaker is supported under Windows 7 x64, i.e. It's not been deprecated?
